Gruff Rhys

What do Mogwai and Danger Mouse and even the hiphop "crew" De la Soul have in common? Well, a nowdays solo artist, Gruff Rhys .
Rhys started off as a drummer for the band Emily. After a few jumps to the bands Super Furry animals and Ffa Coffi Pawd (don't ask) he released his first solo project "Yr atal genhedlaeth" in 2005. Not receiving so good reviews. After listening to it, I can understand why, I mean it sounds kinda monotonous and well the fact that the language is UN-understandable (welsh) doesnt make it any easier...
In 2007 he collaborated with Boom Bip (producer and artist) creating the project "Neon Neon"
After a few more releases, his most recent "Hotel Shampoo", which was released in februari this year, received the Welsh Music prize.

What I can see is that Gruff Rhys is a rather active singer and artist, even contributing with own documentaries, to be more specific he presented in 2010 the documentary "Seperado".

Here you have the song Space dust #2 from his latest album, where the swedish singer Sara Assbring sings along.

Cheers,
Captain.

Sunday of woawoa

We can all recall to those days of non- existence. Today is one of those days. As a member of Knock On Mute! though I figured that it would be a good chanse to "musicate" myself. (I bought some cd's the other day, in my regular way.)
Step 1.
Go to Punk/Hardcore section.
Step 2.
Pick whatever reminds you of something.
Step3.
Pick whatever you havent heard and has a cool cover.
Step 4.
Pick whatever is from a good label.
Step 5.
Repeat all of the above.

It is rather challenging though since I mostly end up with a whole bunch from which I must pick like one 10th. Anyway, here you have a little chart from the fabs.

Pulley- Fuel

Section 8- Who are you to Blame?

The Peepshows- Thy will (Not Mine)

Samiam- Stepson

International Noise Conspiracy- Smash it up

Hopesfall- The end of an Era

Last but not least Gutternsnipe. Here you have a 2 in one, with Join the strike and U.C.F.S

Cheers, Captain

P.S. Hopesfall's No wings to speak of takes it home.

An Unreleased Side

It's not in the way your eyes connect with someone else's eyes. It's not in the way you feel when the other one is in the same environment where you are. It all comes to the way your heart or your soul acts with a simple thought of somebody else. It all comes to when the words are / seem hard to tell. It all Comes to when you cannot go forward or back. It all comes to the for 'Long' or 'Short' picture in your mind. It all comes to the difference between your body's temperature and the temperature of tha place where you are. This is one of my Unreleased so far Romantic / Sentimental Sides. These Melodies found very quick and easy the key to unlock this part Of me. This Music has to do with another person. Although i don't know the lyrics of Red Cedar's songs yet, there's nothing else to think besides Relationships , Behaviors and Connections between You and another One. When Listening to the Red Cedar's upcoming songs i just felt depressed in a Good Way. And i can Assure you that Depression has a Good thing inside. Their Music describes the Situation when you decide to move on, to Get Over it. You come down and down but when You reach the bottom you have only one Choice. To try to reach the highest point again. It's a Long Way, but isn't it exciting to give it a Try?

Scraps of Tape.

The day after the live of La Casa Fantom in Berlin, it was the turn of another scandinavian band, the swedish Scraps of Tape. The fact that the first guitarist wore an Audrey t-shirt points out alot about their post-rock influences. I must say that I was pretty surprised about their perfomance. They had a bucket filled with energy and spoke in between every song. Everyone was soaked in sweat, and the crowd (perhaps around 60 peps) had the groove going on.

One thing I like about Scraps of tape, is that they tend to play what ever they feel like. The've got a really interesting indie/post rock thing going on. Melodic guitars followed by strong punch like drums with explosions of "emotion" from time to time. It's like a well balanced roaler coaster. They've marched through different phases though since 2001 when they kicked off. Their most recent album Resident Flux has received great reviews, and will be promoted in combination with the bands first North american tour and second Japan tour.

I now give you one of my favourite songs, from their third release Read Between the Line all the Time, which reminds me very much of Explosions in the Sky, and the early Mogwai.

Cheers, Captain
