Fin Meets Dustin Lovelis From The Fling (Band) : Interview

1)Write a Sentence to inroduce the band to someone who doesn't know you.

We are The Fling from Long Beach, CA.  

 

2)When and How did the Band Form?

I had known most of the guys from other local bands.  Graham(bass) is my brother.  I moved to Long Beach to put a band together and things just sort of fell into place eventually.  We have been around for a little over 4 years.

 

3)Why "The Fling"? What does the name of the band represent? 

The Fling was the name of my dads band around 79-83.  He started a family and quit music.  We are just taking over where he left of.  Family business of sorts.

 

4)How you would describe your sound?

Really really really...fun.

 

5)Which are your influences?

Multiple choice? Guided By Voices, Elliott Smith, The Pixies, Graham Parsons to name a few.

 

6)Does your origin play a role to the music you're writing? Which role?

Yeah Graham and I are definitely influenced by our parents' records.  Mamas and Papas, Everly Brothers ect.  A lot of harmonies.  

 

7)Describe the funniest thing happened during a rehearsal and a live show.

We played in drag on a recent tour.  Got to wear dresses and wigs.

 

8)Which was your best live show so far and why?

Getting to play The Metro in Chicago was pretty surreal.  

 

9)Is it peculiar to have your brother in the band? How do the other members confront this kind of relationship in the band?

We all get along just fine.  Being related doesn't really change the dynamic if the band too much.  

 

10)Is the band your main occupation?

Time wise, yes.  

 

11)Are you making your Living from the Band?If not what else are you doing in your lifes?

No.  I work construction.  Everyone has jobs while we are home.  

 

11)You have released two Ep's and an Album so far.Any plans for a Second Album?

Yeah we have about 30 songs right now.  Just trying to narrow it down to an album.  We will most likely release 2 records this year if everything goes according to plan.
