Gruff Rhys

What do Mogwai and Danger Mouse and even the hiphop "crew" De la Soul have in common? Well, a nowdays solo artist, Gruff Rhys .
Rhys started off as a drummer for the band Emily. After a few jumps to the bands Super Furry animals and Ffa Coffi Pawd (don't ask) he released his first solo project "Yr atal genhedlaeth" in 2005. Not receiving so good reviews. After listening to it, I can understand why, I mean it sounds kinda monotonous and well the fact that the language is UN-understandable (welsh) doesnt make it any easier...
In 2007 he collaborated with Boom Bip (producer and artist) creating the project "Neon Neon"
After a few more releases, his most recent "Hotel Shampoo", which was released in februari this year, received the Welsh Music prize.

What I can see is that Gruff Rhys is a rather active singer and artist, even contributing with own documentaries, to be more specific he presented in 2010 the documentary "Seperado".

Here you have the song Space dust #2 from his latest album, where the swedish singer Sara Assbring sings along.

Cheers,
Captain.

Sunday of woawoa

We can all recall to those days of non- existence. Today is one of those days. As a member of Knock On Mute! though I figured that it would be a good chanse to "musicate" myself. (I bought some cd's the other day, in my regular way.)
Step 1.
Go to Punk/Hardcore section.
Step 2.
Pick whatever reminds you of something.
Step3.
Pick whatever you havent heard and has a cool cover.
Step 4.
Pick whatever is from a good label.
Step 5.
Repeat all of the above.

It is rather challenging though since I mostly end up with a whole bunch from which I must pick like one 10th. Anyway, here you have a little chart from the fabs.

Pulley- Fuel

Section 8- Who are you to Blame?

The Peepshows- Thy will (Not Mine)

Samiam- Stepson

International Noise Conspiracy- Smash it up

Hopesfall- The end of an Era

Last but not least Gutternsnipe. Here you have a 2 in one, with Join the strike and U.C.F.S

Cheers, Captain

P.S. Hopesfall's No wings to speak of takes it home.

An Unreleased Side

It's not in the way your eyes connect with someone else's eyes. It's not in the way you feel when the other one is in the same environment where you are. It all comes to the way your heart or your soul acts with a simple thought of somebody else. It all comes to when the words are / seem hard to tell. It all Comes to when you cannot go forward or back. It all comes to the for 'Long' or 'Short' picture in your mind. It all comes to the difference between your body's temperature and the temperature of tha place where you are. This is one of my Unreleased so far Romantic / Sentimental Sides. These Melodies found very quick and easy the key to unlock this part Of me. This Music has to do with another person. Although i don't know the lyrics of Red Cedar's songs yet, there's nothing else to think besides Relationships , Behaviors and Connections between You and another One. When Listening to the Red Cedar's upcoming songs i just felt depressed in a Good Way. And i can Assure you that Depression has a Good thing inside. Their Music describes the Situation when you decide to move on, to Get Over it. You come down and down but when You reach the bottom you have only one Choice. To try to reach the highest point again. It's a Long Way, but isn't it exciting to give it a Try?

Scraps of Tape.

The day after the live of La Casa Fantom in Berlin, it was the turn of another scandinavian band, the swedish Scraps of Tape. The fact that the first guitarist wore an Audrey t-shirt points out alot about their post-rock influences. I must say that I was pretty surprised about their perfomance. They had a bucket filled with energy and spoke in between every song. Everyone was soaked in sweat, and the crowd (perhaps around 60 peps) had the groove going on.

One thing I like about Scraps of tape, is that they tend to play what ever they feel like. The've got a really interesting indie/post rock thing going on. Melodic guitars followed by strong punch like drums with explosions of "emotion" from time to time. It's like a well balanced roaler coaster. They've marched through different phases though since 2001 when they kicked off. Their most recent album Resident Flux has received great reviews, and will be promoted in combination with the bands first North american tour and second Japan tour.

I now give you one of my favourite songs, from their third release Read Between the Line all the Time, which reminds me very much of Explosions in the Sky, and the early Mogwai.

Peace/Freedom Straight In the Soul

-Unbelievable!

The thing that this album does to me is unexplainable.

What i See:

I See tremendous lands of grass. To where my eyes can See, the Colours are just Green and Yellow.
I See the Sun shining but I don't see The Summer.
I See people sitting in Parks, having pick nicks.
I See children Playing with eachother. Parents having conversations. Dogs barking with joy.
I See people sitting all around a table , having coffee, sharing thoughts and stuff.

What i Think:

It’s a Mix of Folk , Acoustic, Indie and Alternative melodies.
It's the Music Playing in the Background of a morning while you're Drinking your Coffee and Trying to put Yourself in a Normal situation in Order to start your day.
It's also the Music Playing in the evening when your Are so calm that you Deny to Open your eyes once again for the day that is coming to an End.
It’s not just a Quiet , Warm thing Hugging your ears it’s music that gives Peace in the Soul. Creates The Freedom in your Thinking.
It’s music that Creates good Feelings. 'Keep Away the Dead' by Siskiyou has to do almost always with more than two.
It Has to do with Family , Company and Affinity .

Key word?

Inconsistency.

At the number 4 of the Tracking List of the 'Keep Away the Dead' album Comes a Song that stands completely at the other side of all the things i wrote above. Its title is 'So Cold'. This song gives something more than Sadness. This Song makes you see your life so far. Makes you decide for your future according to your past. It's like your temperature goes down and down as this song Pleases.
No more Words.

Long Time No See

The Starter (A Little Confession):

The thing i hate most is to press myself to do things or to be pressed by others or other things to make something happen. This is the reason why from the 14th of October i haven't posted something on our Blog.

To the Main Dishes :

Today's Post is dedicated to a Band called Flashguns. They are Located in Britain and of course in a way that's easy to understand from their Vocals and Melodies. My first experience with them was hearing the Song 'Locarno'. What a Song! Yes i Know that they play Indie / Alternative but can't you recognize that they differ from All Those Other New Bands? They Are not the Music in the Background. They are the music in the background till someone from the enviroment really listens to the music being heard and looks up in the sky or down and stops paying attention to the discussion or the others around him/her. They have something catchy that i haven't really spotted yet. They carry 2 Albums in their suitcases and this is enough for them in order to tour all around UK and Europe. I Hope I See them Live in the near Future.

The Desserts:

I don't believe to the God of Spam. I do believe that with a little research or effort you can find What you need or want. This is Flashguns Official Site (http://www.flashguns.com) but you can listen more on Grooveshark.com .

A Gift:

Get your Jetpacks and Let's Fly Away

Thoughts:
  1. It's about driving alone in the Autobahn. Rainy weather. Wearing scarf, leather Jacket and Boots. Drinking filter coffee and listening to every single song of the album.
  2. It's about traveling alone. Being in a train, going to a destination to find or meet something/someone.
  3. It's about sitting on the couch and turning the lights off so nothing gets your attention except of this album.
  4. It's about music that brings feelings and a stomachache out of nowhere.
This is for me the new album called "In the Pit of the Stomach" by the "We were Promised Jetpacks".

As powerfull as it should be. With peculiar Dynamics that come and go, and in a way nostalgic Vocals coming out from the corridor or a room in the back.
Over.

A song for hope.

A little tip for this post is to play the song as your're reading this.

Ben Howard is a british singer-songwriter with a mild folk sound. I believe that he suits today's sunday morning. I've done alot of thinking lately, something I believe that 95% of the greek population has been doing, and yes, we know, things aren't as steady and dreamlike as want them to be. But on the same time, I feel that life is too short to be downdrawn by things we can't control, and yes I am talking about the political, economic and social crisis we are swimming in.
Personally I'm very glad that I have amazing people by my side, a wonderful family and good health (at least for now...) And, perhaps, we should stop worrying about the things we don't have, and embrase the things we do have. I just want to be able to smile and feel that it is sincere you know, like when you were a child. But, when you've been brainwashed from childhood that growing up is not easy and that being a child is the best thing you can be (at least in our western society and in an average family) it's kinda hard to not feel supressed, or aborted from the "Happyland" as years pass you by and you feel that your dreams slowly fade away..
The conversation is endless and I could talk for hours about the subjective aspect of life, our living, our reality. Even our identity is subjective. You are not who you think you are, and definitely not who you want to be. So summing up,
We should forget yesterday, stop worrying about tomorrow, and live for today.

"He not busy being born, is busy dying"// Bob Dylan

Cheers, Captain.

Umbrellas everywhere!

I am sure that everyone would be very excited and proud about their piece of work (im talking about a song) if there were several covers of it. Everyone knows rihanna? Or? I bet she doesnt like rainy weather, but on the other hand she shouldn't care since she has an UMBRELLA! What Im trying to say is, that this post is dedicated to all the covers and re-creations of the song umbrella. I personally hate it (captain speaking) but I couldnt resist....I think... So here it goes.

Vanilla Sky

The Baseballs

Mandy Moore

Manic Street Preachers

Biffy Clyro

And of course here comes the originall. Which version do you like btw?:P

To be Honest

To be Honest with you people all this time i was demanding for the creation of a Blog. I thought that it will be nice if i could share my thoughts about Music and New discoveries and stuff. Now came my first time to post something here and its funny that i'm in a way confronting a blank page that in the end has to be filled up with letters and sentences.
There is a song by Vodka Juniors that expresses fully the 'How i would describe my relationship with Music'. That's the song called 'Music is All i Got'. And there is also a funny T-Shirt (Photo) to make a comment on the previous sentence, which has printed on it 'Music is My Boyfriend'.
How would a world without music look like? --> There would be No World.
So i will not write what will come after in this Blog. But i will share my best song of all the times in this post and i'm sure we will be in touch. Enjoy!

To be quite honest with you it's hard to write about yourself when you have to. It's like dancing, when someone just comes randomly up at you, and says " hey, dance for me b**h"... njee just kidding.
Well Captain and Fin are two girls, 24 and 21 years old, who live together and share a dog and their love for music. Endless discusssions have been made on their balcony in Exarhia, about what life would be without music and instruments and radio and so on.

Captain and Fin's broadcasts for Indiegroundradio started in March 2011. The broadcast's title Knock on Mute! was taken by a previous music project Captain had with her best friend in Sweden. The first broadcast could easily be characterized as nervous. (Fin had made broadcasts before so she was more experienced). But after a while the broadcasts started rolling as they should, since we had strong backup and support by our listeners. (Yeah, thanks you guys....) Anyway, needless to say, as every starter and newbie make booblers, so did we...but we're so cute so people forgave us pretty quickly. (im referring to a missfortunate moment with Johny Cash)..

After almost 6 months on Indiegroundradio, we've come to the point were we want to expand our musicoffers to the listeners. We started off by playing the music WE like, but after a while we thought that our broadcasts could be a great opportunity to broaden our horizons (in music knowledge). So, now, we play mostly new discoveries, and underground bands we find interesting.
Enough with the writing. Don't forget to listen to us today ( our first broadcast for this winter) and from now on every tuesday at 12 o'clock. (CET)

For starters.....

We are really pleased to announce that we've managed to create a blog...(because its soo difficult)
After this rather long summer-paus we are really excited to start broadcasting from our new facilities and studio downtown. The place is amazing and filled with positive energy. So me and Fin are looking forward our first broadcast this tuesday 4/10.

Since there have been alot of music catching up lately, my current playlist has 41 songs. geeeh, It will be difficult to choose 12 of them. Fin has also a numerous of new bands to present.

This will be an interesting autumn, the whole production team is loaded with ideas and eventplans and so on.

Stay tuned with us, and enjoy!!
